St. Margaret of York Midweek Update December 31, 2008
Forgiveness
Imagine if the seasons held grudges. Autumn would delay winter. Winter would kill spring. Spring might stall summer. Summer might let autumn wait. But as it is, seasons have no memory of the good and bad that accompany them. One season passes and gives way to the next. We have our own seasons and they can be seasons of joy or sorrow. Happiness may come like warmth from the sun. Bitterness may pelt us like rain. There is an art to learning from the wisdom of nature. While we can't control most of what comes our way, we can learn to accept it with grace. We can learn to let go of what hurts and forgive those who hurt us. There can be no life without seasons, and there can be no life of the heart without learning to rise in love and turn toward indifference with courage. We adapt to each season—be still and learn from the sun, the cold, the wind and rain, the snow and seeds.
