The Parish Religion Program (PRP) at St. Margaret of York Parish provides faith formation for children in grades 1-8 who attend public schools. We also have a program for children ages 3 years – Kindergarten. The Parish Religion Program includes session options during the summer (for 1st grade –8th grade) as well as the academic year on Sunday mornings. Families choose the option that best supports parents in their role as primary influences in their children’s growth faith.

Our program for the “little ones” (ages 3 through Kdg.) is a dynamic program that is offered on Sunday mornings (during the 9:00 Mass) September – April each year.

1st Grade – 8th Grade classes are also held during the 9:00 Mass. It is the responsibility of the parents to plan for Mass attendance of their children.

All programs are dependent upon the commitment of parents and the parish family, as partners and as members of a loving community of believers. Various programs are offered periodically in the parish and throughout the Archdiocese to further the knowledge of the catechist in the Catholic faith which, in turn, allows them to better educate their students.

As Catholic Christians each of us is on a journey of discipleship. Catechesis or faith formation is a lifelong process that helps us to powerfully and deeply live our faith. We are formed over time and in many ways:

  • In a special way through our regular participation in Mass and sacraments

  • Giving priority to the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist before all things

  • Through learning about our beliefs as Catholic Christians, leading to an increase in our appreciation of our faith

  • Through growth in the ways of prayer

  • Through active service of one another and those who are in need in our city and world.

As we grow in faith, we come to understand that following Jesus Christ calls us to be stewards of our lives, possessions, and time. We begin to see that discipleship calls us to live for God and others and that the Holy Spirit will give us the strength to do so throughout the moments and stages of our lives.

The Parish Religion Program not only provides quality faith formation for our parish children, but also for their parents and families as well. Active participation in on-going faith formation is expected of all parents whose children participate in the program. Parents who are regular participants in family or adult faith formation attest to the ways in which their lives and the life of their family is enriched as a result of their commitment to grow as disciples.
