1st Sunday in Advent --2009 PDF Print E-mail
Dear Parishioners,

In one of Charles M. Schulz’s ―Peanuts‖ comic strips, Linus and Charlie Brown are down at the pumpkin patch awaiting the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. Linus is enthused because they are in a great position to see the Great Pumpkin when he rises from the patch.

Charlie Brown says, ―It just occurred to me that there must be 10 million pumpkin patches in this country. What makes you think we’re in the right one?

Linus explains that he has a feeling because these pumpkins are more sincere. Then, suddenly, a dark head rises in the moonlight and Linus exults: ―There he is, there he is! It’s the Great Pumpkin rising up out of the patch!

The ―head has some familiar floppy ears. It’s just Snoopy.

The Bible is right. We don’t know when Jesus is coming. At this beginning of Advent it is best just to be pre-pared. The hundreds of predictions of Christ’s coming have all been false and those who made them are fools. It will happen in God’s time not ours. But one thing is certain. It will happen. That is why we must keep a watchful eye on ourselves and not let our faith be taken from us.

Our Gospels, all of our scriptures during this Season of Advent call for us to be prepared because the Son of Man is coming at the time we least expect.

May this Season of Advent be for you and yours a time of expectation and joy as we prepare to celebrate God’s greatest gift to us, His Son Jesus Christ. May your time of preparation for the great feast of the Incarnation be also a time of joyful preparation for Christ’s coming again into the world.

God Bless

Fr. Jan
