Faith Formation Commission Update

May 2008

Vision

Every member of SMOY will have the opportunity to learn and grow in their Catholic faith.

Mission

  • To enhance the effectiveness of current FF Programs at SMOY.

  • To identify, develop and launch into self-sustaining ministries, new faith formation programs that meet the changing needs of the parish.

  • To effectively communicate FF opportunities to parishioners.

2006-07 Accomplishments

  • Launched Why Catholic? at SMOY

  • Offered family-friendly FF Programs: Advent Event, Breakfast in Bethlehem, Children’s Stations, Easter Egg Hunt and Resurrection Event

  • Held a FF Ministry Leaders Forum – acknowledged our ‘membership’ in the FFC and identified ways we can help each other

  • Produced and distributed a Fall FF Program Brochure

  • Recruited Volunteers to ‘own’ Children’s Stations and Easter Egg Hunt.

2007-08 Goals

Accomplishments

Other Issues

Enhance current FF Programs – CRHP participants & Spiritual Directors to help engage parishioners during the transition… Adult Bible Study… other Ministries in need?

  • Offered WC?

  • Offered Adult Bible Study, but had to cancel due to low turn out

  • Recruited CRHP participants and SDs

  • Offered babysitting for the 2007 Parish Mission and 2008 Lent Retreat.

  • Held annual FF Ministry Leaders Forum in April

  • Planning to launch resources for small faith sharing groups in addition to WC? for 2008-09

  • How can we identify, recruit and train effective small faith group leaders?

  • Can SMOY offer and pay for one weekly evening of babysitting – and also have room for multiple meetings?

Continue to launch New Ministries into self-sustaining programs – ID Ministry Leadership outside of FFC for WC? and Breakfast in Bethlehem

  • Launched T&T for SMOY. Responsibility has been transferred to the Stewardship Commission.

  • Continuing to extend personal invitations to parishioners or established SMOY Groups (e.g., CRHP Teams) for larger ministry opportunities.

  • Need promotion and participation from all Commissions / Ministries for the T&T program.

  • Continue to need volunteers for Program Committees – Breakfast in Bethlehem, etc.

Increase effectiveness of Communications to build more awareness – pulpit talks, FFC Lent Brochure

  • Produced and distributed a Fall and Lent FF Brochure

  • Met with Web Site Committee to start identifying how to get FF info and registration online

  • Developing seasonal readings and links for a ‘spiritual resources’ section on the website.

  • Still not clear of the role of the Communications Committee?

Other relevant items from the LRP

These elements from the LRP are not currently being addressed due to limited resources:

  • Identification and promotion of relevant Archdiocesan and other local FF programs of interest.

  • Provide programs that enrich family life.
